What can you eat and drink in the sauna?

To spoil all the positive effects of a sauna, it is enough to eat a hearty meal. Ideally, food intake should be avoided for several hours before the procedures. Otherwise, instead of relaxation, you may experience unpleasant sensations. This advice should especially be followed when you plan to visit a massage salon.

Go to the sauna with an empty stomach

Traditionally, relaxation without a table full of delicious food seems impossible. Alcoholic drinks are also considered a must-have. However, none of the above is compatible with a healthy lifestyle. Of course, you may feel like having a snack, but forget about heavy foods and dishes. Take some vegetable snacks and fruits with you. If that seems insufficient, prepare some low-fat fish or a small amount of meat. This is not necessary if you feel that you can easily do without it.

Drinking culture

When it comes to drinks, the situation is exactly the opposite. High temperatures contribute to intense sweating. Fluid loss must be constantly replenished. However, coffee and alcohol should not be included in the list of suitable drinks. Their consumption leads to excessive stress on the cardiovascular system.

The Turkish bath – Hamam involves the use of traditional Eastern herbal teas with a tonic effect. The same drink with added honey can also be consumed in saunas. Avoid sugar and sweets. Use real teas rather than packaged tea bags. Ideally, they should be herbal. There are many healing herbal blends available. You can add mint, wild strawberry, currant, rosehip, oregano. In addition to being excellent thirst quenchers, they are wonderful natural tonics.

The traditional Slavic drink kvass is considered an authentic sauna beverage. It immediately creates associations with beer. However, alcohol consumption is excluded during the procedures. A small amount may be acceptable after the sauna if you really want it or if it is part of a social tradition. It is important to remember that no therapeutic effect can be expected after excessive alcohol consumption.

SPA procedures involve thermal effects on the body. This is not just a great way to spend a weekend. Treat them as a method of restoring health and replenishing energy.
