Principles of Thai Massage

Dear clients of our SPA salon, in this article we would like to tell you in detail about the basic principles, benefits, and effects of Thai massage procedures.

Classic Thai massage is a combination of techniques that have a beneficial effect on a person’s physical and psychological condition.
The technique of this non-traditional therapy originated in Southeast Asia. It is based on religion and philosophical views.

Main Techniques

During a Thai massage session, which lasts from 2 hours, the therapist completely relaxes the client’s muscular system. The therapist works with elbows, feet, and knees, affecting 10 energy lines that surround the body, applying pressure to specific points located on both nostrils, eyes, ears, and fingers and toes. The massage therapist works on each of them in a specific sequence.

The first movements performed by the therapist are gentle and smooth to prepare the client for the continuation of the session. Soft music and incense help create the right atmosphere. After completing the pressure techniques, the massage therapist moves on to working with deeper muscles using bending and stretching movements. The therapist identifies areas of tension and works with the entire body, including the back, shoulders, sides, and ribs.

The final gentle movements are directed toward the facial area. After these techniques, swelling decreases and facial expression lines become less noticeable.

Using thumbs and palms, the therapist stretches and kneads the muscles. During the session, knees and elbows are used only by experienced professionals. The therapist applies pressure to certain points with the feet. The specialist works either standing or kneeling, transferring their energy to the client. The technique used in the procedure includes elements of Indian yoga.

Benefits of the Sessions

Thai massage does not only relax muscles. It also improves blood circulation, stimulates lymph flow, and helps reduce stress. Special techniques help:

A Thai massage session helps eliminate fatigue and relieve muscle spasms in people whose work is associated with mental stress.

When nerves are compressed, constant headaches may occur. After the therapist works on the shoulders and neck, these symptoms can disappear.

For nervous disorders, massage movements help release tension and improve overall well-being. A person begins to feel a surge of energy, renewed vitality, and a better mood.

Who Should Avoid the Procedure

Thai massage sessions should not be performed after surgery, in the presence of purulent wounds on the body, or during a cold accompanied by a high fever. This technique is not used for advanced chronic conditions or serious mental disorders. Massage is also not recommended for pregnant women.
